sql server - SQL query - Order by in the SQL query OR Sort a List<> -

i'm trying improve sql queries. i'm using sql server management studio 11 sql server 2012. i'm working on webform c# .net (v4.5) project.

when create query directly sql server management studio, can use "execution plan" check happens.

the bottleneck of query "order by". better sort list directly code after request or should keep using "order by" of sql query?

thanks

i believe it's better use sql order clause , important reasons won't cut way in future implement paging of data retrieving , able check "execution plan" performance issues connected sorting results (like did now). if want improve query performance, create index columns included order clause - if not sure how in cases can use index suggested execution plan.
