How to use Javascript to analyze arbitrary html files -


i want use javascript analyze html file (i want find sum of column in table). have code think this, unsure of how tell javascript find html file.

most of things i've done javascript have involved linking html file javascript including tag in html file. however, in case want able run analysis on arbitrary html files. there argument can pass in javascript somewhere?

edit: asking see code, using lot script in top answer of stack overflow question: sum total column in jquery

i trying make tool can used on various different html files tables, although of them should hosted in same directory. looking need use ajax this. can script run without being attached html file?

edit 2: intending call javascript inside perl script. however, discovering perl might have support analyzing html documents html::treebuilder module. depending on how hard use, might implement same function in perl script instead of messing around javascript.
