Is it really necessary to specify out parameters in mysql stored procedures? -

i writing stored procedure in mysql , meddling out parameter. when specify parameter in definition of sp, error while executing stating there n+1 parameters while n parameters available. , if mention value out parameter no results.

how parameters passed?

also practice select values/columns , handle things on app layer?

please suggest. newbie db (at least in programming) , not clear on these concepts.

thanks in advance time , efforts.

i don't understand why use out parameter. writing function, , in case there's no out parameter, return statement, or procedure, , should not use procedure modify and/or return value ?

for second question, depends. if make lot of treatments inside base (with stored procedures , triggers), you'll have less things in application side, you'll have heavy base, long timeouts. dbms mysql, isn't powerfull, sadly ... remember, depends of needs. i'll suggest select values inside base, , make treatments application-side. in database, use triggers (when needed, not always) check datas , updating processes, still remember, makes database heavier , queries longer. , there's thing must ask before : project gonna stay ? remember mysql stored procedures, oracle sp, postgres sp, ... aren't compatible.

(sorry poor english, i'm french)
